What to expect in Malta!

Malta is a small island located in the Mediterranean Sea. Situated between the South of Sicily and the North Coast of Africa, it is steeped in history.

Maltese society and culture has been influenced by various forms of foreign rule including, but not all: the Romans, Greeks, Sicilians, French and the British. These influences have made Malta famous for their stunning architecture and delicious food. We loved our short time in Malta and would recommend it as a travel destination to anyone. Food

Malta’s history really comes to the fore with their food, as it is heavily influenced by many different cultures notably from Italy, Britain and Spain. This influence can be seen throughout their many traditional dishes. We truly loved the food in Malta and tried numerous dishes whilst we were there. We especially loved the Ftira (Grano in Valetta is incredible!) and the Italian inspired Kannolis.

Transportation

The public transport system in Malta gets an Afrom us. The buses operate around 400 routes across Malta and Gozo making access to all areas easy and affordable. Hiring a car is another option as the road networks are modern and well maintained, giving you piece of mind. However, keep in mind that built-up areas can get very busy during peak times.

Weather

Due to Malta’s proximity to the equator, Malta sees more hours of sunshine per day compared to the rest of Europe. During the summer months (March to November) there is little rain with temperatures rising to 35°C, however it does benefit from a continuous sea breeze. During the Winter months (December to February) temperatures rarely drop below 10°C but often have rapid and violent showers.
